The Virginia Civil War 150 HistoryMobile will be at Coyner Springs Park in Waynesboro on Saturday and Sunday for the Waynesboro at War event and the Civil War Dance Social. Saturday the event will run from 9 am to 5 pm, and on Sunday it will begin at the same time, and end at 4 pm. The event showcases Virginia’s Civil War history and features an interactive ‘museum on wheels’ that helps people to see and experience Civil War history through a series of exhibits. Exhibits are about the life and times of people who lived during the Civil War and features battlefront, home-front, slave life and freedom journeys, and legacy elements.
The Civil War Dance Social will be held on Saturday from 7 pm to 9 pm and will feature period clothing and dance from the Shenandoah Valley Civil War Era Dancers and live music by Shenandoah Valley Minstrels. Period clothing and dance experience are not required and tickets need to be purchased for patrons aged 12 and older. Single admission is just $8 and couples can buy tickets together for only $12. In history, Waynesboro’s trestle bridge on the Virginia Central Railroad was attacked and destroyed by Union General Sheridan’s army in September, 1864, and later in March of 1865, the same area saw the army of Confederate General Jubal Early defeated on its grounds.
