Middlebrook Ramble
The Middlebrook Ramble is a Virginia mountain biking trail that rolls through the countryside of Augusta County in Virginia’s beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Designed as a figure eight trail you can enjoy Virginia mountain biking on the trail in three different ways: a very easy 9 mile beginner route, an 11 miler with a few more hills, and finally the 20 mile ramble, which is completed by doing both loops. Located 10 miles away from Staunton Virginia, the Middlebrook Ramble biking trail is a great place for both beginners and experts to enjoy.
Deerfield Horse Trail
This mountain biking and Virginia horseback riding trail is located 25 miles west of Staunton and has some nice views of the Breastworks from the western portion of the Shenandoah Valley. Start on US 250 and you’ll find the first few climbs to be pretty tough, however as the trail goes on, the hills become more moderate.
Elliott Knob
This Virginia mountain biking trail is located 15 miles west of Staunton and takes cyclists through the George Washington National Forest to Elliott Knob, the tallest peak in this region. This is one heck of a Virginia mountain biking trail with several tough climbs and rocky terrain. Experienced riders should enjoy the rock riding found throughout Elliott Knob, however beginners will want to sit this one out.
Little Bald Knob Climb
Little Bald Knob is a great Virginia mountain ikbing trail that goes through Horse Trough Hollow, over Little Bald Knob and on to the North River. The Virginia mountain biking found here is suitable for intermediate to advanced riders, as the 9.8 mile climb to Little Bald Knob is particularly strenuous.
Great Lakes Loop
The Great Lakes Loop trail is a great Virginia mountain biking trail that can be found just 15 miles from Staunton. Cyclists enjoy the picturesque landscapes of the Allegheny Mountains and the beautiful manmade mountain lakes. Enjoy the great views from this Virginia Mountain Biking trail.
West Augusta Trail
The West Augusta Trail is a great Virginia mountain biking trail perfect for the whole family. The trail takes cyclists around Braley Pond and through a 3.5 mile section of US 250. The main trail is not too steep and perfect for a family outing, however more adventurous riders will enjoy the blazed trails that venture off of this main one. One particular trail leads to the Bridge Hollow Trail just outside of the Ramsey’s Draft Wilderness area, another great mountain biking spot.
George Washington National Forest
The George Washington and Jefferson National Forests are another excellent place to enjoy some mountain biking. The Forest provides thousands of miles of roads and trails available to mountain bikers, and visitors can use any of the trails year-round. Unless the road or trail is specifically closed to mountain bike use, you are free to ride your bike on any of them. Expect to share the forest with other users including hikers and those on horseback.
Blue Ridge Railway Trail
The Blue Ridge Railway Trail is a beautiful and easy trail along the Piney River in Nelson County. Parking is available at both ends of the 7 mile trail, and it is open to hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders.
