My name is Jordan Horst. I was born and raised at Cabin Creekwood. For fifteen years I have lived out here and have had to find ways to stay entertained. Today I’m going to provide some local insight on activities in the area.
One of my favorite things to do in the summertime is to go fishing. It is so much fun to find a quiet spot along the shore of a lake and sit in the warm sunshine waiting for that huge large mouth bass to bite. Sherando Lake is a popular fishing location. However, I prefer a quieter spot like Elk Horn Lake or Braley Pond. The drive is a bit longer to either of those two places but it is worth it. You will feel like you are in a whole different world out there. The peacefulness is indescribable.
Kayaking is probably second on my list of favorite pastimes. There is nothing quite like spending an afternoon out on the water. My friends and I will sometimes race out to the island or the dam. When we get tired, we just glide through the glassy surface of the water while talking or reading books. It is such a beautiful environment to be in. From the middle of the lake you can even see beautiful scenes that just aren’t visible from the shore. Kayaking is not only fun in the summer. It is just as much fun to bundle up in some warm clothes and experience it when it is less crowded in late fall or early spring.
Another one of my favorite activities is hiking through the beautiful trails around here. One of my favorite trails is called Spy Rock. At the top of this two and a half mile hike is the most gorgeous mountain scenery I have ever seen. You can see for miles in every direction. For a shorter hike, you could always head down to Sherando lake and explore one of their many trails. They have a fairly flat, half mile long path that follows the shore line of the lake. There are many other hiking trails to enjoy around here including White Rock Falls, Humpback Rock, and the Jack Albright Trail.
I hope that I have given you some good suggestions of things to do the next time you visit Cabin Creekwood. I will see you soon.
